The story and conviction behind KALP YANTRA
Creator of the Edenix Autonomous Farming System
When the pandemic forced the world indoors, I spent nearly two years on my family's farm in Gujarat. Inspired by India's growing natural farming movement, I set out to grow crops without synthetic chemicals. The conviction was strong. The reality was harder.
Organic farming demands relentless, precisely timed labor. Without chemical weedicides, weeding must happen on schedule — but after heavy monsoon rains, waterlogged soil makes it impossible to step into the field for days, giving weeds an unchecked head start. Without pesticides, catching insects and disease early is critical — but most farmers lack the time, labor, or diagnostic tools to spot problems before they spread. I watched farmers around me abandon organic methods and resort to blind pesticide spraying, not out of choice, but out of desperation to save their yields.
The pattern was clear: organic farming doesn't fail because of bad intent. It fails because human labor alone cannot meet its demands at the speed and precision required. For natural farming to succeed at scale in India, it needs technology — not as a luxury, but as essential infrastructure.
That insight became Kalp Yantra. I chose to build on FarmBot Genesis — the world's leading open-source precision agriculture platform — because its hardware design and software ecosystem are proven across 500+ institutions globally. Starting from that mature foundation, I adapted and engineered Edenix specifically for Indian conditions: voice control in 28+ regional languages, offline-first operation for areas with poor connectivity, weatherproofing for monsoon environments, locally manufactured components, and on-the-ground installation and support in Hindi and Gujarati.
The goal is simple: make chemical-free farming practical, not just aspirational.
Built on proven global infrastructure, adapted for India
Edenix is built on FarmBot Genesis, a 100% open-source precision agriculture platform released under MIT and CC0 licenses. FarmBot's hardware designs, software, and documentation are freely available and have been continuously developed since 2011.
